Diavik Diamond Mines (DDMI) owns Rio Tinto’s interest in and manages the unincorporated Diavik diamonds joint venture in the Northwest Territories of Canada. Mining takes place in the lake bed at Lac de Gras with water held back by a dike made of rock fill. With approximately 800 employees, Diavik is instrumental in making Canada the world’s third largest diamond producer by value. Diavik has won awards for its sensitive management of environmental and community issues.

 

Reporting to the AM Fixed Plant Underground Supervisor, the Helper AM Fixed Plant Underground will work on a two (2) weeks on / two (2) weeks off rotational basis at the Lac de Gras mine site. The Helper, AM Fixed Plant Underground is responsible for ensuring that all underground sumps are mucked out according to schedule, pumps lifted, and appropriate actions taken if required. They will work closely with the electricians hanging cable and millwrights performing pump checks and overhauls.

 

The Helper, AM Fixed Plant Underground responsibilities include but are not limited to;

  • Manage the accumulation of muck in the sumps.
  • Help move parts from various areas of the mine.
  • Operate a JLG unit to help out the crew.
  • Hang electrical cable.
  • Perform pump checks and PM’s.
  • Complete other related work as assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor.

 

The successful candidate will be one whose #1 priority is safety in the work place.

 

The incumbent will have:

  • Grade 12 diploma.
  • Qualified to operate selected underground equipment.
