Full-Time Manager – Mining

This role is based at the Ekati Diamond Mine, located 300 kilometres northeast of Yellowknife in the Northwest Territories. You will fly to the mine from Yellowknife for a work rotation of 4 days on site followed by 3 days off. The Ekati Diamond mine boasts an 860-bed accommodation complex, including Misery, which is designed to be as comfortable, functional and as safe as possible for all employees, visitors and contractors.
The successful candidate will be required to reside in the City of Yellowknife. Yellowknife is a culturally rich capital, thriving with diversity, and home to about 20,000 people. We are located on the shores of the beautiful Great Slave Lake. Reporting to the President and Chief Operating Officer you will have the challenge and responsibility for the day to day activities of Health, Safety, Environment and Community (HSEC), volume and cost performance including short term mine planning and integrated planning for Mine Operations. You will deliver safe, cost effective and efficient open pit and underground mining operations and mine services that meets and aims to exceed safety, cost and production targets. With exceptional performance and achievement of key targets, further opportunities for advancement exist for the successful candidate.
Ensure a safe working environment, being a visible leader for safety by demonstrating positive safety behaviours;
Prepare and comply with the Mining business plan ensuring it is aligned to the overall Ekati business plan;
Develop and cascade Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) aligned with the Ekati business plan to team;
Provide leadership and ensure the development of employees by modelling positive behaviours and developing succession plans that ensure a continuous supply of critical roles;
Create an environment to identify and implement opportunities to improve productivity, efficiency and cost effectiveness;
Assess risks, develop procedures, and ensure internal controls are in place and are effective for all production operations; and
Ensure compliance with Socio-Economic and Impact Benefit Agreements as they relate to mine operations and in regards to maximizing Aboriginal and Northern Employee representation within the Ekati workforce.
A Bachelor’s degree in Mine Engineering or a related discipline.
10 years of related experience in the industry with at least 5 years in a managerial role.
Ability to lead and motivate a large team of professionals and operators, focusing on obtaining the best performance out of the team.
The successful incumbent must have the ability to manage time and set priorities based on team and business needs. The candidate will have competency in a variety of mining environment functions such as budgeting, production forecasting and analytical reporting as well as project management skills including scheduling and cost control.
