Our Thompson, Manitoba site is currently seeking a:

Mine Planner

 

The Opportunity:

The successful candidate will be a member of the Mines Engineering department at one of our three underground mines providing production planning service to assist the mine operations to safely and efficiently extract ore. The successful candidate must be able to build and maintain these relationships as interaction with other technical staff, supervision, and hourly employees are an important part of the role.  The position will involve regular trips underground to visit your area of responsibility

Accountabilities:

Duties of the job will include but are not limited to:

-Design stopes using Vulcan mine design software.
-Production ITH drill hole layout.
-Production blast design including issuing blast letters, clearing and guarding notifications, and holding pre-blast meetings. -Design development for accessing the ore body.
-Ensuring that backfill of stopes is planned and issued.
-Ensuring that ventilation systems are designed and issued for installation in your area.
-Ensure power and drainage systems are designed for your area.
-Economic assessment of stopes.
-Managing projects such as mine improvement and infrastructure replacement.
-Communicate with contractors and construction crews.
-Recommend improvements to engineering designs.
-Know and comply with safety policies and procedures.

Education:

-Post-secondary diploma in Mining Technology or a related discipline with 3 years of mine planning experience, OR
-Secondary school diploma with 5 to 10 years experience in underground mine planning.
 

Knowledge and Skills: 

-Strong computer skills are needed.
-Experience with 3D mine design software (Vulcan preferred – Training will be provided)
-Knowledge and usage of MS Office would be an asset.
-Working knowledge of mine processes and mining methods.
-Knowledge of project management principles.
-Demonstrates safe behavior.
-Demonstrates effective communication skills.
