Barrick Gold Corporation, Toronto Office, is currently looking for a Senior Manager – Strategic Planning for the Operations Support group. They will be the person that will link Operations with the financial business development group.
The job includes the management of the business planning cycle and associated deliverables such as Life of Mine, Budgets and Forecasts. Other requirements are monthly and quarterly reporting, including the analysis to support external reporting. They will work closely with the finance team, Regional Business Unit’s technical staff and mine sites, ensuring technical and operational considerations have been incorporated within the internal and external financial result reports. The Senior Manager inquires and answers questions regarding results, reserves/resources, policies and standards. Translates, qualifies and quantifies the impact of operational results on the financial results.
The successful applicant must have around 15 years of experience in the mining industry with a track record of advancement.
The successful applicant must have;
- Extensive technical experience in Underground and/or Open Pit Mining
- Degree in Mining Engineering
- Strong cost estimation background with operational and financial modeling experience
- Project management experience, plus a strong background in budgeting and AFE development
- Sound understanding of business strategy and processes
- Strong cost estimation and budget preparation background. Financial forecasting including operating and capital costing.
- Knowledge of mine optimization tools and techniques.
- Excellent organizational, communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.
The applicant should also be a self-starter who enjoys a fast paced and results oriented environment. As well, the applicant must have a proven ability to work with operational and technical personnel. Although this position reports into the Toronto office, the applicant must be willing and able to travel worldwide supporting project and/or existing operations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Become the owner of the planning process within the Operational Support.
- Maintain and provide a clear understanding of the actual results, forecasts and budgets by providing explanations on variances when required.
- Ensure corporate objectives are communicated to the technical leads within the regions for the business plan development.
- Support and manage where required the submissions of technical documentation for forecasts, Business Plans, Cutoff grades and LOM reports by the regional leads.
- Support the business planning group.
- Assist regions and sites with the preparation of reserves, budgets, Cut of grades and LOM plans by communicating corporate guidance and assisting in the development when required.
- Review the regional preparations of reserves, budgets, cut of grades and LOM plans etc closely with the Busisness Development group. Undertake peer reviews as required.
- Provide the M&A group and Capital project group with the physical and cost information as needed.

Education and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor of Engineering (Mining)
- Registered Professional Engineer with one of the recognized organizations (e.g. AUSMin, PE, PEO, etc)
- Minimum of 15 years hands-on operations and technical experience with a track record of successful advancement
- Strong cost estimation background
- International experience preferred
- Financial Modeling Experience
- Long and short term mine planning
- Able to run the following software at intermediate to advanced level: Vulcan, Mine 2/4-D, Whittle, EPS, Xeras.
- Able to travel unrestricted internationally
