| Kumtor Operating Company
The Director HSE &T will report functionally to the Vice President Operations at the Kumtor Mine site. This position forms an integral part of the senior management team. The role requires someone that can lead and continue to drive an excellent behavioral safety culture throughout the organization, to continue developing and implementing Environmental systems and frameworks, and plan and drive the training function at the mine.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Lead the continuing development and implementation of strategic HSE&T plans, policies, budgets, and systems in accordance with the company’s strategic objectives and Centerra Gold Inc.’s HSE Management System. • Manage the HSE&T function and work closely with functional heads of Maintenance, Geology, Operations, Finance, Human Resources, Medical and Procurement. • Demonstrate a strong commitment to the development, implementation and evaluation of HSE Management Systems and programs, and the continuing development of best practices. • Ensure that all HSE&T initiatives are in compliance with all local government regulations, Canadian Federal, Saskatchewan Provincial, World Bank EHS Guidelines and IFC Performance Standards, as well as company and corporate policies. • Identify, formulate, and expand the development of effective Environmental plans and procedures to ensure compliance with international, local government and company regulations and policies. • In conjunction with corporate directives, prepare and facilitate the verification and certification process for compliance with the International Cyanide Management Code to which Centerra is a Code Signatory. • Ensure that the HSE&T objectives are met through effective leadership and supervision of subordinates. • Work closely with the company Medical Advisor in relation to occupational health issues. • Support management & supervisor development training programs and establish high standards of safety performance for management. • Support the organizational culture of Centerra while recognizing and advocating the uniqueness of Kumtor and its requirements. • Formulate annual operating and capital budgets and optimize those expenditures. • Maintain proactive and open communication with country and corporate senior management teams, providing accurate data on the operation, as well as insightful interpretation of that data. • Keep abreast of new developments and best practices in the field of HSE&T and make recommendations for improvements.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
The Director HSE&T reports directly to the VP Operations but has direct contact with the President and works closely with the Corporate Director, HSE. Area of responsibility includes Operations, Head Office and a Marshalling Yard.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
• Must be willing to relocate and actively enjoys international assignments • Superior management skills, combined with an ability to develop and execute plans by applying leadership skills not just management techniques. • “Leads from the front” by maintaining close supervision of all HSE&T activities , being present at the mine a minimum of 9 days per work cycle. A 9 days on 5 days off work schedule is in effect at the mine, however the Director will be required to organize his schedule to cover all areas – Mine Operations, Head Office and BMY – as dictated by operational requirements. • Must be adept at motivating and obtaining results, leading by example with a participatory management style.
