Titan Mining Corporation is reopening the Empire State Mines, operated by St. Lawrence Zinc Company, in upstate New York near the town of Gouverneur.  We are currently assembling our key operations team and are seeking a credentialed professional with experience in narrow-vein mines to fill the role of Chief Mine Geologist.

The Chief Mine Geologist is responsible for management of the geology department, for all aspects of mine geology (including implementation of an effective grade / dilution control program, and estimation of mineral resources), and for in-mine and district-wide exploration programs.  This mine site based position is an excellent opportunity for someone to join the organization and make a significant impact while working with the senior leadership team to lead and guide the organization.

 Responsibilities

  • Provide mentorship/leadership of geology department, and coordinate and report on all of its activities
  • Prepare and manage operating, contractual (e.g. drilling, assaying), and capital budgets
  • Provide comprehensive geological input (e.g. orebody geometry and grade and tonnage potential) into strategic and short-term mine planning and forecasting
  • Oversee and optimize grade/dilution control and reconciliation programs to ensure that goals are met
  • Plan, budget and manage delineation, definition and in-mine exploration drilling programs
  • Estimate mineral resources using geostatistical methods, serving as a “Qualified Person” in accordance with Canadian National Instrument 43-101
  • Ensure the integrity and validity of all data used in mineral resource estimation by following established QA/QC protocols
  • Supervise 3D modeling of complex wireframes based on integration of drilling and mapping information and ensure timely updates to 3D grade-control models
  • Account for all aspects of district exploration programs, including target determination, program planning, budgeting, and implementation.
  • Communicate effectively with direct supervisor, Senior Mine Geologist, and Mine Engineering and Production departments
  • Ensure that all activities of the Geology Department are consistent with all Environmental, Health, and Safety practices
  • Be familiar with and ensure compliance with relevant Mine Health and Safety Administration (MSHA) rules and regulations

Qualifications

  • BS/BA degree in Geology or Geosciences; MS degree in structural geology is an advantage; professional geologist certification (e.g. CPG, PG, PGeo or equivalent) is highly recommended; and ability to work in the US.
  • 15 years of post-graduate experience in mining; seven to ten years of experience in underground production mine geology, preferably in narrow-vein mines; experience with and knowledge of selective mining methods is an advantage; and at least five years of experience in a senior management position.
  • Experience mapping and familiarity with geometrically-complex orebodies; familiarity with structural geology of multiply-deformed, high-grade metamorphic ore deposits; and strong observation skills and ability to visualize in 3D.
  • Experience with 3D modeling and mine planning software; proficiency in use of Gemcom, Leapfrog, AutoCad, and Promine is an advantage; and familiarity with MS Office Suite is required.
  • Familiarity with 3D photogrammetric imaging systems (3GSM, Adam Tech, or SiroVision) is an advantage.
  • Skill in written and verbal communication (in English), critical thinking, data analysis, problem solving, and time management.
  • Ability to set clear objectives and goals, monitor progress, measure performance, and evaluate results.
  • Experience as a team builder who empowers others and provides guidance, who is open to feedback and constantly strives to improve.
  • Ability to take ownership of and be accountable for geology department outcomes.
