Construction Foreman – Musselwhite M & H, Thunder Bay, ON (2018-3288)

Location                                          Musselwhite, Ontario

Rotation                                          14 days on, 14 days off

Shift Length                                    10 hours

Travel                                              Flight from airport closest to point of hire to Thunder Bay – Chartered flight to site

Pre-employment Requirements:

  • Ontario Hard Rock Underground Common Core – Full Basic (or other provincial equivalent)
  • Ontario Basic Underground Hard Rock Front Line Supervisor(or other provincial equivalent)

Scope of work:

The primary scope of work is shotcreting some of the mass excavations, build bulkheads, chutes installs, rock breaker, truck dump grizzlies, truck load outs, ore bins, concrete work for new crusher installs and shaft hoist.


Job Summary:

The primary role of the Construction Supervisor is to plan, organize and control activities of a construction group, to ensure the project is completed in accordance to company standards and safety practices; to administer, direct and coordinate the functions of the site management and technical personnel; to minimize project cost; and to provide oversight and assist with national construction training program.


Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Assist project engineering and construction management when necessary in clarifying or defining parameters and deciding on processes to be utilized

  • Monitor and analyze production and operational reports to ensure acceptable progress on the project

  • Take appropriate action as critical dates approach to ensure a smooth transition from phase to phase

  • Develop and lead crew to achieve planned objective

  • Coordinate with vendors, subcontractors, and client authorized project work schedules;

  • Supervise sub-contractors and national workforce

  • Ensure that subcontractors have current and accurate plans and specifications

  • Act as principal coordinator and liaison with subcontractors to ensure contract compliance

  • Establish expectations with subcontractors and vendors to ensure solid understanding of contract requirements (including documentation and information), expectations, and timing of required construction and materials

Health and Safety:

  • Having the authority and responsibility to maintain a safe and efficient working environment

  • Following Company health and safety standards and reporting any unsafe acts or conditions to Supervisor

  • Responsible for the use and maintenance of all safety equipment, i.e.  Lanyards, warning signs and labeling, according to company rules and applicable legislation.

  • Responsible to ensure proper use and maintenance of personal protective equipment.

  • Must have knowledge of the WHMIS legislation and know how to effectively use an MSDS sheet.



  • High School diploma or equivalent

  • Post-Secondary education in a mining related discipline or equivalent experience



  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Lead-Construction Miner

  • Ontario Hard Rock Underground Common Core – Full Basic (or other provincial equivalent)

  • Ontario Hard Rock Underground Front Line Supervisor – Common Core (or other provincial equivalent)


Knowledge Required

  • Must understand underground work environment

  • Must understand responsibilities of leadership

  • Ability to multi task and work effectively

  • Ability to work efficiently as part of a team as well as independently

  • Able to work in team environment, and lead by example

  • Willing to mentor others

  • Willing to be trained in other aspects of trade

  • Ability to read civil prints

  • Basic understanding of Mine Regulations pertaining to task

  • Ability to conduct risk assessment of specific task

  • Understanding of work related procedures and standards

  • Ability to recognize and resolve problems as required
