 Position title:                            Director, Vanadium Process and Products

Condition of employment:    Permanent full time job (40 hours/week)

Annual wage:                             $180,000 and more based on experience, plus competitive benefits package

Expected start date:                 July 1st, 2018

Position overview

BlackRock Metals Inc. is a Canadian company based in Montreal. BlackRock Metals is about to start in the Saguenay area of Québec the construction of a mine and a metallurgical plan that will produce vanadium, pig iron and titanium. BlackRock Metals is looking for a vanadium specialist that will report to the Vice-President geology and technical Services. The Director, Vanadium Process and Product will be responsible for the design of the processes of the new metallurgical plant and supervision of the construction and installation of the vanadium process related   equipment as well as the start-up of the new plant. The Director, Vanadium Process and Product will also support the Vice President Corporate development in the marketing of vanadium and other products.

The Director, Vanadium Process and Products will be based in Montreal with frequent travelling in the Saguenay region as well as various part of the World where customers are located.


  1. Process Design
  • Responsible to develop and optimize the vanadium process from inception through to start up and certification
  • Evaluates and resolves technical feasibility, design optimization, and production issues
  • Develop a process strategy to strive to a zero-waste platform
  • Develop best practices, routines and innovative solutions to improve production capacity and quality of output
  • Participate in training, start-up and operation of the vanadium Process
  • Assess processes, take measurements and interpret data
  • Perform risk assessments
  • Supervise the start-up of the metallurgical plant
  • Develop Standard operating practices (SOP) related to safety, efficiency and products
  • Others as assigned

     2.      Product development — Vanadium and other products

  •  Manages and coordinates product development projects
  • Support corporate development for the vanadium products
  • Researches and monitors existing client base and industry developments and identifies potential new product opportunities
  • Works with other departments to establish a design, technology, product development, and vendor strategy
  • Manages project budgets and prepares financial analysis reports
  • Others as assigned


High school diploma;

A minimum of ten (10) years of experience in the vanadium industry technology and process more precisely of specialized plants producing iron/titanium/vanadium alloys;

Extensive knowledge of the market for iron, titanium and vanadium products and more specifically in good experience of the vanadium market, its pricing structure and specifications;

Demonstrable effective communicator between cultures as the post requires communication with colleagues and potential off-take clients, in the Middle East, China, Europe and North America;

Understanding of logistics, delivery of mineral products to the market;

Experience of working and travelling various parts of the world;

Knowledge of English required and French desirable.
