Hoist Operator – Musselwhite (2018-2956)

Job Description

Location                                          Musselwhite, Ontario

Rotation                                          14 day in followed by 14 day out

Shift Length                                    12 hours

Travel                                              Flight from airport closest to point of hire to Thunder Bay – Chartered flight to site

Accommodations                          Camp setting

Pre-employment Requirements:

  • Drug test
  • Criminal Background check 
  • Underground Hard Rock Mining Common Core (Ontario)
  • Required Specialty Modules: U0074 (or other provincial equivalent)
  • Hoist Medical


Work Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years underground mining experience



Job Summary

The primary role of the hoist operator a P58 Hoist , manual,  move personnel and materials up and down the mine shaft while ensuring the safe operation of the hoist at all times.

Required Skills

  • Move gear in and out of the shaft

  • Perform routine daily inspections on hoist and assures maintenance needs are reported

  • Test the safety devices and controls of the hoist

  • Move levers and pedals to operate hoist in response to alarm, bell, or buzzer signals.

  • Observe dial indicator and marks on cable or drum to ascertain that desired position has been reached

  • Apply hand or foot brake and moves lever to lock hoist.

  • Inspect, lubricate, and adjust brakes and equipment.

  • Select loads or materials according to weight and size specifications

  • Must be able to comprehend written and verbal instructions as required to perform his duties in a safe and efficient manner

  • Must be able to follow proper procedure to ensure safety and to control equipment damage

    Health and Safety:

  • Having the authority and responsibility to maintain a safe and efficient working environment

  • Following Company health and safety standards and reporting any unsafe acts or conditions to Supervisor

  • Responsible for the use of all safety equipment, i.e.Lanyards, warning signs and labeling, according to company rules and applicable legislation.

  • Responsible to ensure proper use of personal protective equipment.

  • Must have knowledge of the WHMIS legislation and know how to effectively use an MSDS sheet.
