Inspector of Mines, H&S Specialist

$69,900.80 – $79,791.25 annually

The Mines Health, Safety and Enforcement Division (MHSED) regulates the BC mining industry to ensure the health and safety of workers and public during the mineral exploration, mine development and closure of BC’s mineral resources.

The Provincial Inspector of Mines-Health and Safety Specialist is a ministry professional on mine health and safety and for ensuring compliance and enforcement of health and safety under the delegated authority of the Mines Act and the Health, Safety and Reclamation Code for Mines (HSR) in British Columbia. The position, along with the Senior Health and Safety Specialist, ensures standards and operational policies for mine inspectorate are effective and complied. The position develops and revises operational policies and programs, conducts inspections and investigations, enforces actions for health and safety non-compliance, and provides expert advice.

Qualifications for this role include:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, mining engineering, occupational health and safety or related field, and 5 years of experience in the mining operations, mine regulatory field or related field or health and safety; OR
  • Diploma in engineering, mining engineering, occupational health and safety or related field, and 7 years of experience in the mining operations, mine regulatory field or related field or health and safety.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered.
  • Experience solving complex technical problems, interpreting and analyzing data related to mine health and safety management.
