Job Description

Western Atlas Resources Inc. is a Canadian publicly listed company focused on the acquisition and development of scalable precious metals projects in premier mining jurisdictions.

Western Atlas is currently exploring its 100% owned Meadowbank project, 580 km2 of mineral claims along trend and immediately adjacent to Agnico Eagle’s Meadowbank producing gold mine and Amaruq gold deposit in Nunavut, Canada.

Department: Geology

Position: Junior Geologist

Position Reports to: Exploration Manager and other Senior Executives upon request

Location: Meadowbank, Nunavut, Canada

Length of Contract: Seasonal position, April through the end of September

Scope and Responsibilities:

Each Geologist is responsible for all aspects of the drill holes under their direction:

  • Regular updating of the hole progress with the drill foreman and project/operations manager
  • Core logging
  • Sample selection, and marking out individual samples for cutting
  • Selection of blanks and standards for each hole
  • Supervision of core cutters and sample prep/bagging operations
  • Supervision of core storage in the core racks, and cataloguing the location of each hole on the core rack diagrams
  • Editing of drill logs, and printing of final copy
  • Compliance with the Company’s QA/QC protocol

 Responsibilities may also include:

  • Preliminary geotechnical measurements as required (RQD/RMR, etc)
  • Writing sample tags
  • Taking core photos
  • Assisting core-logging geologist
  • Core cutting and sampling
  • Sample shipping
  • Visits to the drill(s) to monitor progress, inspect environment and safety compliance.
  • Receive core from the drills each morning at shift change and afternoon re-supply flights.
  • Field assistance for mapping and prospecting may also be required and will include:
    • Safe field practices in remote areas and around helicopters


  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Geology or equivalent
  • Prior work experience at a mining/exploration operation highly regarded
  • Demonstrate excellent work ethic, communication & organizational skills
  • Ability to work outdoors in all conditions
  • Able to work in camp setting
  • Able to work day shifts and night shifts

 Working Conditions:

  • Meadowbank site camp and/or Baker Lake operational office as required
  • Working and lodging areas are alcohol-free and drug-free, as well as smoke-free in common areas
  • Preferred work rotation will be 4 weeks on, 2 weeks off, with some flexibility in the scheduling of days on/off
  • Transportation will be provided from point of hire to and from project site

 Language requirements:

  • Additionally, knowledge of Spanish is considered a plus
