Western Atlas Resources Inc. is a Canadian publicly listed company focused on the acquisition and development of scalable precious metals projects in premier mining jurisdictions.
Western Atlas is currently exploring its 100% owned Meadowbank project, 580 km2 of mineral claims along trend and immediately adjacent to Agnico Eagle’s Meadowbank producing gold mine and Amaruq gold deposit in Nunavut, Canada.
Job Description
Department: Geology
Position: Junior Geologist
Position Reports to: Exploration Manager and other Senior Executives upon request
Location: Baker Lake, Nunavut, Canada
Length of Contract: Seasonal position. The program starts immediately and will last a minimum of two months (completion of the program is expected for end of March or beginning of April, 2021)
Scope and Responsibilities:
- Core logging and sampling. The job includes sample selection, marking out individual samples for cutting, selection of blanks and standards among others
- Supervision of core cutters and sample prep/bagging operations
- Editing of drill logs and related tasks
The work will be conducted under the supervision of the Exploration Manager and in compliance with the Company’s QA/QC protocol
Responsibilities may also include:
- Preliminary geotechnical measurements as required (RQD/RMR among others)
- Writing sample tags
- Taking core photos
- Assisting core-logging geologist
- Core cutting and sampling
- Sample shipping
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Geology or equivalent
- Prior work experience at a mining/exploration operation highly regarded
- Demonstrate excellent work ethic, communication & organizational skills
- Ability to work in all conditions
- Able to work in camp setting
Working Conditions:
- Baker Lake Lodging is in a fully serviced house
- Baker Lake office, indoor logging and sampling facilities, additional as required
- Working and lodging areas are alcohol-free and drug-free, as well as smoke-free in common areas
- Transportation will be provided from point of hire to and from project site
Language requirements:
- Additionally, knowledge of Spanish is considered a plus
