Scope of work:

The provision of labour and equipment for the ramp and lateral development - 6,500 meters of lateral development - ore wast past 3x3, 193 meters in total.  2 Alimak raises 3x3, 140 meters in total, 225 meters of vent raises 6x6.

 

Job Summary:

Under the supervision of the Shift Supervisor, the primary role of the Lead Development Miner is to be proficient in all areas of development mining tasks, is able to complete them efficiently with little to no supervision and has the ability to guide and mentor less experienced miners.

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Identify and rectify unsafe conditions in underground headings

  • Scale back and walls as required to make the workplace safe

  • Capture field measurements using MOSS (Miner Operated Survey System)
  • Align Sandvik E2C jumbo drill on line and on grade and drill to the engineered dimensions
  • Load and prime development rounds with bulk emulsion and electronic detonators following engineering designs
  • Drill and install resin rebar ground support using MacLean mechanized bolting equipment

  • Install resin rebar using mechanized bolting equipment
  • Install and maintain mines services such as fans, vent tubing and pipes and cables

  • Operate large mobile equipment such as a 2900 and a 1700 Cat Scoop and TH550 Sandvis Truck

  • Receive instructions or directives from Shift Supervisor and coordinate activities of the development crew

  • Record field measurements and provide shift end report to supervisor and cross shift

  • Must be able to comprehend written and verbal instructions as required to perform his duties in a safe and efficient manner

Required Skills and Qualifications:

 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (preferred)

  • Basic literacy (read, write, basic math and read blue prints) required

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as a underground miner

  • Ontario Hard Rock Underground Common Core – Full Basic (or other provincial equivalent) (required)

Required Specialty Modules: U0060, U0068, U0068B, U0089, U0092 (or other provincial equivalent) (preferred)

  • Demonstrated ability to read mine plans and specifications for underground mining.

  • Ability to multi task and work effectively
  • Ability to work efficiently as part of a team as well as independently

  • Ability to recognize and resolve problems as required

  • Ability to make decisions quickly

  • Ability to adapt to a varying work environment often requiring the employee to develop new and innovative work methods

  • Strong leadership skills

  • Strong organizational skills

 

Health and Safety:

 

  • Have the authority and responsibility to maintain a safe and efficient working environment

  • Follow Company and Client health and safety standards and report all unsafe acts or conditions to supervisor

  • Responsible for the use and maintenance of all safety equipment, i.e. PPE, lanyards, warning signs and labeling, according to company rules and applicable legislation.

  • Ensure permits are in place and lock 0ut tag out procedures are followed

  • Responsible to ensure proper use and maintenance of personal protective equipment.

  • Ensure that workers are qualified and capable to safely performing the assigned work

  • Must have knowledge of the WHMIS legislation and know how to effectively use an MSDS sheet.
