ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Mine Planning Engineer and Mine Planning Technician to join the Brucejack Project in Northwestern, British Columbia.

Located approximately 65 kilometers from Stewart, both roles will report to the Chief Mining Engineer or designate and work a rotating schedule encompassing 14 days on, 14 days off.

MINE PLANNING ENGINEER    

In this role, you will use your expertise to provide complex specialist underground planning services that support quarterly and annual projections. Your responsibilities will encompass all aspects of the mine’s value chain, from mining reserves and resources to the production of quality ore for processing.

Key duties include:

  • Short and long-term planning of all underground mining activities from drilling, charging and blasting to the loading and hauling of ore and waste;
  • Assist in delivering quality mine designs and sustainable production schedules to facilitate orderly development and cost efficient exploitation of ore reserves;
  • Provide design reviews while contributing to the development of the mine’s operating schedule;
  • Consult and collaborate with the Engineering and Geology teams to ensure that grade control and plant quality feed requirements are met;
  • Distribute and communicate short and long-term planning reports to the Chief Mining Engineer and other relevant management personnel;
  • Monitor, assess and evaluate adherence to short and long-term plans and advise of corrective action on any deviations or required changes;
  • Complete reconciliations of actual  versus target production performance;
  • Prepare cost analysis and estimates of mine planning activities to feed into overall operational budget reports;
  • Monitor associated working costs to identify equipment and materials for capital budget considerations;
  • Develop monitoring processes to identify improvements of production key performance indicators (KPI’s);
  • Integrate short and long-term planning into life of mine plan;
  • Remain current with changes in mining technology and perform technical systems audits and maintain technical standards;
  • Develop, establish and maintain a management information system while conducting benchmark exercises to improve mining operations;
  • Deliver daily updates at morning meeting to communicate and/or clarify planning activities; and
  • Other duties as required.

Our ideal candidate will have a BSc. Degree in Mining or Geotechnical Engineering, or an equivalent combination of technical knowledge and experience. In addition to five (5) years of mine planning experience, including start-up phase at a remote site in an underground mining environment, you will also demonstrate:

  • Advanced computer skills (ie. AutoCAD, Vulcan, Microsoft Office etc.);
  • Exceptional planning, organizational, communication and problem solving skills;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills (English);
  • Strong expertise in project management;
  • Ability to liaise effectively with management teams and deal with complex problems; and
  • Strong knowledge of Federal and Provincial mining & safety legislation and regulations.

MINE PLANNING TECHNICIAN     

In this role, you will assist and provide the Technical Services team with mine design plans and measurement data. This information will be sued to communicate critical information to the Engineering and Geology teams and ensure the safe and efficient development of mining initiatives at the Brucejack Project.

Key duties include:

  • Consult with the Engineering and Geology teams and assist with the planning and coordination of underground mining/production initiatives;
  • Deliver daily updates at the morning meeting to communicate production status and progress/delays;
  • Prepare and present maps, sketches and mine layout drawings from collected computerized data for submission to senior engineering/geology and management teams, as required;
  • Establish methods to meet work schedules and co-ordinate work activities with other relevant supervisors and/or managers;
  • Monitor and evaluate established mining/production plans to minimize delays and meet anticipated goals and objectives;
  • Enter and manage engineering and geology data into computerized database for retrieval when required;
  • Recommend changes to operating procedures when deemed necessary or appropriate;
  • Develop and maintain accurate mining production schedules;
  • Evaluate effectiveness of mining/production plans and recommend alternative approaches/procedures if deemed necessary;
  • Coordinate labour, parts and equipment to ensure that all the necessary materials are available for the planned project to meet priorities and production schedules;
  • Prepare time estimates for work orders and jobs to optimize resource allocation;
  • Assist with development of drill and blast design;
  • Assist Engineering team with short, mid and long-term plans including daily requirements;
  • Provide support to the Geology and Sampling team;
  • Participate in all aspects of mine engineering plans to remain abreast of anticipated goals;
  • Monitor, assess and evaluate adherence to short and long-term plans and advise of corrective action on any deviations or required changes;
  • Integrate short and long-term plans into life of mine plan; and
  • Other duties as required.

Our ideal candidate will have a two-year Mining Technology Diploma or a relevant Engineering Diploma with three to five (3-5) years’ experience in surveying and technical mine support. In addition to underground mining experience, you will also demonstrate:

  • Advanced knowledge/use computerized mining and administrative software applications. (ie. AutoCAD, Vulcan, Microsoft Office etc.);
  • Exceptional planning, organizational, communication and problem solving skills;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills (English);
  • Strong expertise in project management;
  • Ability to liaise effectively with management teams and deal with complex problems; and
  • Strong knowledge of Federal and Provincial mining & safety legislation and regulations.
