East coast of Labrador (approximately 350 km North of Goose Bay and 35 km Southwest of Nain.


2 weeks/ 2 weeks out

Shift Length:

12 hours


Provided from airport closest to point of hire

Scope of work:


Innu Inuit Redpath Limited Partnership (IIR) will be the primary contractor on an underground mine development project located on the east coast of Labrador, approximately 350 km north of Goose Bay. The existing open pit operation is expected to be exhausted by 2022. Future mining from the two separate underground deposits will extend the life of this operation for at least another decade. Both deposits contain Nickel and Copper and at peak production, 2.54 million tons will be mined annually.

Job Summary:


Under the supervision of the Project Engineering Manager and/or the Project Manager, the primary role of the Project Surveyor is to provide the necessary control points for the development of planned excavations and construction projects and to update development drawings and ACAD files within this area of responsibility


Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Surveying of underground development and infrastructure
  • Conducting routine survey reporting
  • Preparing layouts and drawings required for operations
  • Preparing of as-built drawings
  • Maintaining of survey data
  • Preparing and implementation of related procedures
  • Consolidating survey data, geological and drilling data in preparation of mining layouts and 3D models
  • Specifying and ordering materials and supplies in support of operations and planned work associated with Surveying
  • Ensuring compliance with regulations and site standards


Required Skills and Qualifications:


  • High School Diploma or equivalent (required)
  • Diploma in Survey, Mine or Civil Technology (preferred)
  • Ontario Basic Hard Rock Underground Common Core (preferred)
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience surveying in an underground mining environment
  • Highly skilled in the use of modern survey technologies Ex: Leika, total station, data collector, AutoCAD software, MOSS


Health and Safety:


  • Follow Company and Client health and safety standards and report all unsafe acts or conditions to supervisor
  • Ensure proper use and maintenance of personal protective equipment
  • Work in accordance with local legislation
