Job Summary:

Under the supervision of the Lead Mechanic, the primary role of the Mechanic is to perform preventive maintenance and repairs to diesel, electrical, hydraulic and air-operated equipment. This includes mobile equipment, drills, small tools and miscellaneous equipment of a similar nature.

 

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Repairing and rebuilding equipment (i.e jackleg & stoper)
  • Must be able to maintain and repair the Alimak motors, brakes and use specialized tools to test and effect repairs
  • Service telescopic forklift, MacLean Boom Truck, and Toyota 
  • Must be able to comprehend written and verbal instructions as required to perform his duties in a safe and efficient manner
  • Must be able to follow proper procedure to ensure safety and to control equipment damage
  • Repairing the hose reels, bean pumps, shafts, bearings, check wear limits on the worn gears, pinions, U-Frame rails.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

 

  • Minimum 5 years maintenance and repairs to underground mining equipment
  • Journeyman level qualification (trade school or college diploma) – (preferred)
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (preferred)
  • Basic literacy (read, write, basic math and read blue print) required
  • Ontario Hard Rock Underground Service Type Common Core (or other provincial equivalent) (required)
  • Ability to multi task and work effectively
  • Ability to work efficiently as part of a team as well as independently
  • Ability to read, and understand Hydraulic/Electrical Schematics
  • Ability to use and understand Engine/Powertrain Diagnostic Software, both Handheld, and computer based
  • Ability to use/understand parts and service manuals, able to make parts lists for repairs required and or use service manuals to assist in diagnostics, and proper repair procedures
  • Ability to Service/Diagnose Diesel Engines of many types and makes
  • Ability to Service/Diagnose All Powertrain/Brake Components of Many types and makes
  • Familiar with underground Mobile equipment Braking regulations//testing and adjusting such components
  • Ability to recognize and resolve problems as required
  • Ability to adapt to a varying work environment often requiring the employee to develop new and innovative work methods
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Extensive knowledge and experience on the installation of the following Alimak Component, G-5 Safety Device, motors, brakes, gear boxes, control valves
  • Experience in synchronizing of gears
  • Knowledge and experience with rigging/slinging large, heavy components in close confinements

  • Ensure that workers are qualified and capable to safely performing the assigned work
  • Work in accordance with local legislation
