The Occupational Health and Safety Supervisor provide services to employers, workers, and the public and are appointed under the legislation as Safety Officers and Mine Inspectors (Safety Inspectors). In compliance with the Northwest Territories (NT) and Nunavut (NU) Mine Health and Safety Acts, Explosives Use Act, Safety Acts and the associated Regulations (Acts & Regs), and fosters the vision, mission and values of the Workers’ Safety and Compensation Commission.
Located in Iqaluit, the incumbent reports to the Chief OHS Inspector. Through education, collaboration and enforcement the Supervisor assists stakeholders in achieving compliance with the Acts & Regulations under the direction of the Chief. The incumbent provides supervision to the Prevention Safety team, and ensures reliable and timely front line services to employers and workers in the Territories.
We are looking for a safety professional with demonstrated management and leadership skills, and in depth knowledge of and the ability to apply Safety Acts and Regulations, industry standards and other related acts, codes and regulations as well as investigative principles and procedures. The incumbent will have extensive knowledge and understanding of safety management systems, audit and inspections process, and understanding in a variety of health and safety areas. This is a working supervisor position with frequent duty travel requirements.
This position requires completion of an Occupational Health and Safety degree or a certificate from a recognized institution or equivalent and a Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation, OR a degree in Engineering or Applied Science and a Professional Engineering (P. Eng) designation, with a minimum 5 years progressively related experience working in an OHS field in industry and/or mining/exploration, and minimum 5 years recent progressive supervisory experience. A valid class 5 driver’s licence is required.
The salary ranges from $53.65 to $64.05 hourly (approx. $104,617.50 to $124,897.50 annually), plus an annual Northern Allowance of $18, 533.
