Job Summary:

 

Under the supervision Project Manager, the Project Engineer will be part of the site based management team. The incumbent will act as the primary point of contact for all Field Engineering functions, QAQC and commissioning.

Scope of work:

 

Redpath Canada Limited will be the primary contractor on the Copper Cliff Mine Project Shaft and Loading Pocket Refurbishment located in Sudbury, Ontario.

The scope includes the complete rehabilitation of the Copper Cliff Mine South shaft from surface to shaft bottom, stripping and replacing all shaft steel, brattice, guides, manway platforms, ladders, service piping as well as power cables, automation and communication cables. In addition, all shaft stations will be rehabilitated, abandoned loading and spill pockets are to be removed and a new loading pocket installed.

 

Following completion of the shaft rehabilitation the hoisting system changeover and commissioning will be completed.

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Liaise between the Company’s engineering team, and the Contractor’s Head Office Engineering team and Project Operations Team

  • Ensure IFC prints are approved and issued in a timely manner

  • Manages RFI‘s and field engineering decisions

  • Assist in the preparation of budgets and schedules

  • Work closely with the client in identifying and implementing continuous improvement opportunities

  • Accountable for the Quality Management Plan

  • Supervise the Shaft Technicians

 

Required Skills and Qualifications:

 

  • Ontario Hard Rock Underground Common Core – Basic (or other provincial equivalent) (preferred)

  • Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering with Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) license

  • Extensive knowledge of Structural Engineering

  • Extensive experience with mine hoisting systems as well as shaft sinking and equipping operations

  • Advanced understanding of mine regulations

  • Understanding of work related procedures and standards

  • Ability to lead risk assessments

  • Ability to conduct risk assessment of specific task

  • Ability to multi task and work safely and effectively

  • Ability to work efficiently as part of a team as well as independently

  • Ability to recognize and resolve problems as required

  • Ability to adapt to a varying work environment often requiring the employee to develop new and innovative work methods

  • Strong leadership skills

  • Strong organizational skills

 

Health and Safety:

 

  • Have the authority and responsibility to maintain a safe and efficient working environment

  • Follow Company and Client health and safety standards and report all unsafe acts or conditions to supervisor

  • Responsible for the use and maintenance of all safety equipment, i.e. PPE, lanyards, warning signs and labeling, according to company rules and applicable legislation.

  • Ensure permits are in place and lock 0ut tag out procedures are followed

  • Responsible to ensure proper use and maintenance of personal protective equipment.

  • Ensure that workers are qualified and capable to safely performing the assigned work

  • Must have knowledge of the WHMIS legislation and know how to effectively use an MSDS sheet.

  • Work in accordance with local legislation
