Location                                         Northern Quebec (100km south of Deception Bay, 1800km north of Montréal), Canada

Rotation                                         14 day on and 14 day off

Shift Length                                  11 hours or 11.5 hour shift

Travel                                             Commercial flight from airport closest to point of hire to Rouyn-Noranda, Montreal or Chibougamau.

Scope of Work

The scope of work carried out for this phase of the project is 6650 m of ramp / lateral development, comprehensive series of u/g infrastructure construction.  Trucking waste to surface (or nearest dump) and muck raisebore cuttings. 

Support services includes: Supervision, Mechanics, Electricians, Controller, Clerk and Safety

Job Summary:

The primary role of the Shift Supervisor is to supervise a mining crew on a day-to-day basis and ensure that the tasks assigned by the Site Superintendent are completed as per instructions. The Shift Supervisor is to direct and coordinate the activities and tasks of the work crew, ensuring that all necessary resources are available and that each member of the crew is working safely.


Duties and Responsibilities


  • Carry out all directives of management. Read and sign all log books daily

  • Ensure all employees have the knowledge to work safely and efficiently by giving all employees job specific instructions on a daily basis and monitor progress

  • Assist in work scheduling and planning. Be aware of any changes of conditions in the workplace

  • Ensure all equipment is in good repair, have broken equipment scheduled for repair and make equipment available to mechanics when it is scheduled for preventative maintenance

  • Fill out all progress reports or accident/incident reports that happen during his/her shift

  • Ensure that all employees are properly trained to operate the equipment they will be using. If not, he will train them or arrange for training

  • Ensure employee safety through compliance with all safety and mine regulations, as well as company policy and regulations.

  • Conduct daily pre-shift meetings to ensure employees are informed of safety and production concerns

  • Record in the shifter’s log book any unsafe conditions or equipment requiring repairs

  • Understand, promote and operate by overall company vision and values, goals, objectives and strategies

  • Communicate routinely and effectively with the Mine Manager and other supervisory personnel as required

  • Must be able to comprehend written and verbal instructions as required to perform his duties in a safe and efficient manner

  • Must be able to follow proper procedure to ensure safety and to control equipment damage

  • The duties and responsibilities listed above are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all inclusive



  • High School diploma or equivalent

  • Post-Secondary education in a mining related discipline or equivalent experience



  • Minimum 2-3years’ experience as a Team Leader or Supervisor in an underground mine with demonstrated leadership competencies.

  • Minimum 8-10 years’ experience with 5 years at the Supervisory level

  • Completion of the Ontario Supervisor’s Common Core Program


Knowledge Required

  • Familiar with Occupational Health & Safety and Mines Regulations

  • Ability to lead through example

  • Requires strong interpersonal, leadership and communication skills

  • Requires basic computer skills

  • Working knowledge of all production equipment

  • Ability to multi task and work effectively

  • Ability to work efficiently as part of a team as well as independently


Health and Safety:

  • Having the authority and responsibility to maintain a safe and efficient working environment

  • Following Company health and safety standards and reporting any unsafe acts or conditions to Supervisor

  • Responsible for the use and maintenance of all safety equipment, i.e. Lanyards, warning signs and labeling, according to company rules and applicable legislation.

  • Responsible to ensure proper use and maintenance of personal protective equipment.

  • Must have knowledge of the WHMIS legislation and know how to effectively use an MSDS sheet.
