Salary $64,086.02 – $80,042.76 annually

The Mines Competitiveness and Authorizations Division is responsible for developing, promoting and regulating the thriving, globally competitive, safe and environmentally responsible mining and exploration sectors.

The Regional Geologist position facilitates the development of mineral resources using advanced knowledge and judgment to balance the best interests of the mining industry and the public. This key role is responsible to keep abreast of current metallogenic studies and syntheses, developing and reviewing genetic mineral deposit models, reviewing and advising on mineral/coal/aggregate development proposals, maintaining detailed, accurate and current databases of mineral resources/coal, exploration activity and comprehensive mineral deposit files, and generally fostering and representing the Ministry’s interest and objectives.

The Regional Geologist will be called upon to work with industry, First Nations and the public on matters from the strategic to the operational. Job satisfaction is high, and you would be joining a motivated, experienced and collaborative team. The Regional Geologist will develop and maintain professional relationships with a network of technical experts, and offer valuable insights to prospectors, geologists and senior exploration managers. This position requires travel to project locations throughout the North West, often to remote mountain areas. The Regional Geologist is someone who is physically able to operate in the outdoors in a variety of environments and terrains, and be able to travel by helicopter, and access sites using ladders and underground workings.

Qualifications for this role include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology or Geological Engineering.
  • Minimum of three years relevant experience in mineral exploration, mining geology or government geosciences.
  • Registered or immediately eligible* for registration as a Professional Geologist with the British Columbia Association of Professional Engineers & Geoscientists.
    *Note: Immediately eligible is defined as being registered as a professional in another Canadian jurisdiction or another BC professional association referred to above, and able to transfer that membership to a BC professional association within 6 months of employment. It is the responsibility of the applicant to have their qualifications reviewed by the appropriate body to ensure they have the necessary requirements for registration.
  • Experience and knowledgeable with a broad range of computer software such as MS Office, GIS, graphics packages, MapPlace, and other databases to produce geological and mineral potential maps and displays materials.
