Safety Trainer – Canadian Royalties – Quebec (2019-3668)

Job Description

Project:                       Canadian Royalties International

Location:                    Nunavik Nickel Mine, Northern Quebec (100km south of Deception Bay,    

                                    1800km north of Montréal), Canada

Rotation:                    3 weeks on 3 weeks off

Shift Length:              11 hours

Travel:                         Employee is responsible for travel to Chartered flight either Val d'Or or Montreal 

Accommodation:       Isolated Camp - permafrost conditions

  • FMTM (Formation Modulaire du Québec) or Underground Hard Rock Mining Common Core (Ontario)

Scop of work:

Indoctrination of new employees to site, training on equipment, ocenco, keep a matrix updated, assist and participate in all investigation for Redpath and client if needed.

 

Job Description:

The Mandate of the Safety Supervisor is to provide the necessary resources and support required to enable field personnel to meet all Redpath, Client and legislative requirements relating to Health and Safety in the workplace.

 

Required Skills and Qualifications

Some or all of the following certifications are required:

  • Some or all of the following certifications are required:

  • Ontario Basic Underground Hard Rock Mine Service Types - Common Core

  • Ontario Basic Underground Hard Rock Miner – Common Core

  • Ontario Basic Underground Hard Rock Mining Specialty Module – Common Core

  • Train the Trainer

  • Ontario Basic Underground Hard Rock Front Line Supervisor – Common Core

  • FMTM (Quebec Common Core)

 

  Education Required: 

  • Diploma/Certificate in Safety, Occupational Health, Industrial Hygiene or related field

  • Minimum 5 years working in an underground mine with direct involvement in an established safety system ideally as a Supervisor, Foreman, etc.

  • Experience conducting and reporting incident/accident investigations

  • Effective leadership, communication (written and verbal), facilitation and teambuilding skills in support of excellent client relations.

  • Computer application and MS Office proficiency

  • Advanced understanding of mine regulations

  • Ability to conduct risk assessments

  • Ability to write work related procedures and standards

  • Ability to recognize and resolve problems as required

  • Ability to adapt to a varying work environment often requiring the employee to develop new and innovative work methods

  • Strong organizational skills

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct workplace inspections and Redpath Safety Program audits

  • Participate in project Risk Assessments

  • Participate in new project safety start-up planning

  • Aid in the development and implementation of standard operating procedures.

  • Advise senior management on matters relating to health and safety Develop, implement and support a site specific Safety Plan;

  • Assist the Project Manager in ensuring the investigation of all reportable incidents is conducted in accordance with project, legal and Contractor requirements;

  • Maintains contractor HSE statistics; and

  • Submits weekly and monthly safety reports.

 

Health and Safety:

  • Having the authority and responsibility to maintain a safe and efficient working environment

  • Following Company health and safety standards and reporting any unsafe acts or conditions to Supervisor

  • Responsible for the use of all safety equipment, i.e.Lanyards, warning signs and labeling, according to company rules and applicable legislation.

  • Responsible to ensure proper use of personal protective equipment.

  • Must have knowledge of the WHMIS legislation and know how to effectively use an MSDS sheet.
