Senior Geotechnical Inspector
$68,676.17 – $89,550.22 annually plus 5.5%% Recruitment and Retention Adjustment

The Mines Competitiveness and Authorizations Division (MCAD) manages and facilitates the responsible development of BC’s extensive mineral resources.

As the Senior Geotechnical Inspector, you will provide expert advice to the Senior Director of Technical Operations, the Manager of Geotechnical Engineering, the TSF Manager, and other mines inspectors on geotechnical matters pertaining to the design, review, permitting, regulation, inspection and compliance status of a wide range of mine site components and structures located throughout the province. This includes tailings impoundments, waste rock dumps, open pit slopes, underground workings, water management facilities and dams, geohazards and building foundations

Working in a small and collaborative team, you help manage risks to the environment, the safety of mine personnel and members of the public. Highly organized and detail oriented, you work cooperatively with others and thrive in a fast paced environment. An analytical thinker with exceptional oral and written communication skills, you implement policies, standards and guidelines for mine developments. Qualifications for this role include:

·         A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in geological, mining or geotechnical engineering. Preference may be given to advanced degree(s).

·         Registered or immediately eligible* for registration as a Professional Engineer with the Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia (EGBC).
*Note: Immediately eligible is defined as being registered as a professional in another Canadian jurisdiction or another BC professional association referred to above, and able to transfer that membership to a BC professional association within 6 months of employment. It is the responsibility of the applicant to have their qualifications reviewed by the appropriate body to ensure they have the necessary requirements for registration.

  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in geotechnical engineering or mining engineering. Preference may be given to those with a combination of engineering design experience as well as field experience at an operating mine.
  • Preference may be given to applicants with supervisory experience.
  • Preference may be given to candidates with experience working within a government environment.
