Senior Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Inspector/Engineer, Iqaluit (Non-traditional occupation)

The Senior OHS Inspector / Engineer directly contributes to the WSCC’s vision, mission and values by promoting education, awareness, compliance and enforcement of worker Health and Safety in the NT and NU. This position is a legislated requirement, and has specific legislative duties and authorities under the Northwest Territories (NT) and Nunavut (NU) Safety Acts, Mine Health & Safety Act, the Explosives Use Act and their associated Regulations.

This position is located in Iqaluit, NU and reports to the Occupational Health and Safety Supervisor. This position provides technical expertise in relation to engineering, mine design and operation, mine rescue and explosives handling. Through education, collaboration and enforcement the Inspector has discretionary powers to make decisions to ensure stakeholders are compliant with the Acts & Regulations under the direction of the Chief OHS Inspector (Chief).

We require an Engineering degree in a relevant discipline; preferably mining, from an accredited university. Must be registered or be eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer in the NT and NU, and with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in the mining/exploration industry. A valid class 5 Driver’s License is also required. A CRSP (Certified Registered Safety Professional) and an OHS Certificate or Diploma or ability to acquire would be considered an asset.

The salary ranges from $49.02 to $58.53 hourly (approx. $95,589 to $114,133.50 yearly), plus a Northern Allowance of $18,533 yearly.
