Redpath Mongolia LLC has an immediate opening for a Senior Project Engineer to join their dynamic team at the Oyu Tolgoi Underground Project in Mongolia. The site is situated in Southern Mongolia in the heart of the Gobi Desert flatlands.

Closing: November 21, 2018

Location: Oyu Tolgoi

Rotation: 4 weeks on, 2 weeks off

Shift Length: 12 hours

Job Description

The primary role of the Senior Project Engineer is to focus on the project management process including risk and safety management, and managing site projects from concept to completion. Significant importance is placed on the training and mentoring of the Mongolian National workforce throughout all processes.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Plan, schedule and coordinate underground initiatives in accordance with guidance from client;

  • Supervise and coach Project Engineers along with Mongolian National workforce;

  • Develop and maintain client relationship by ensuring accurate monitoring of project progress advising on status of project;

  • Perform all functions related to Drill & Blast: Design, Calculations, Simulation, QA/QC, Forensics on Failed Rounds, and Optimizations of Current Practice;

  • Provide technical support, quality, and environmental control of the works in accordance with the contract specifications and the relevant statutory regulations;

  • Plan and program the works under the Contract to optimise efficiency and productivity and to minimise cost;

  • Identify changes and variations to the works under the Contract and ensure these issues are recorded, tracked, and otherwise managed in accordance with the Contract;

  • Coordinate and direct subcontractors and suppliers as required;

  • Act as Engineering Manager delegate when required;

  • Attend and contribute to pre-start meetings, safety huddles, roster change, and shift change meetings when required;

  • Lead where appropriate the management of change process;

  • Mentor, teach, and intellectually challenge the Mongolian National workforce to build a better knowledge base of mining techniques and best practice procedures.

Skills & Experience

  • Bachelors (B.Sc.) degree from a recognized college or university;

  • Demonstrated extensive experience in an underground environment in a similar role;

  • High level of initiative and ability to work well under pressure;

  • Knowledge of safety management and systematic approach;

  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written;

  • Strong customer relations management skills;

  • Must work well in a diverse team environment;

  • Proven ability to provide leadership, performance feedback and management and team development;

  • Minimum 10 years practical experience in Underground hard rock mining operations.
