Senior Project Engineer (2019-3516)

Redpath Mongolia LLC has an immediate opening for Senior Project Engineer to join their dynamic team at the Oyu Tolgoi Project in Mongolia. Situated in the southern Gobi desert of Mongolia, approximately 550 kilometers south of the capital, Ulaanbaatar and 80 kilometers north of the Mongolia-China border, Oyu Tolgoi is jointly owned by the Government of Mongolia and Turquoise Hill Resources. Since 2010, Rio Tinto has also been the manager of the Oyu Tolgoi project. Oyu Tolgoi is one of the most exciting developments in copper and gold mining for several decades. It contains reserves and resources that make it one of the world’s largest known copper and gold deposits. The project is expected to be a significant contributor to Mongolia’s development.

Closing: March 25, 2019

Location: Oyu Tolgoi Mine Site

Rotation: 4 weeks on, 2 weeks off

Shift Length: 12 hours

Job Description:


The primary role of the Senior Project Engineer is to focus on the project management process including risk and safety management, and managing site projects from concept to completion. Significant importance is placed on the training and mentoring of the Mongolian National workforce throughout all processes.


Roles and Responsibilities:


  • Plan, schedule and coordinate underground initiatives in accordance with guidance from client

  • Supervise and coach Project Engineers along with the Mongolian national workforce

  • Perform all functions related to Drill & Blast: Design, Calculations, Simulation, QA/QC, Forensics on Failed Rounds, and Optimizations of Current Practice

  • Provide technical support, quality, and environmental control of the works in accordance with the contract specification and the relevant statutory regulations

  • Plan and program the works under the Contract to optimize efficiency and productivity and to minimize cost

  • Coordinator and direct subcontractors and suppliers as required


Required Skills and Qualifications:



  • Bachelors (B.Sc.) degree in Mining Engineering from a recognized college or university

  • Minimum 6 years' experience as a mining engineer with exposure to all facets of underground hard rock mining

  • Demonstrated extensive experience in an underground environment in a similar role

  • Knowledge of safety management and systematic approach

  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written

  • Previous experience mentoring and developing junior engineers

  • Mine development and project optimization experience

  • Skilled in mine software applications
