South Mine – Shaft Electrician (2020-4604)

South Mine - Sudbury, Ontario

Rotation:

14 days in – 7 days out

Job Summary:

Under the supervision of the Lead Electrician and/or the Electrical Supervisor, the primary role of an electrician is to install, wire, maintain & perform preventive maintenance and repairs to electric equipment during sinking operation.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Must be able to comprehend written and verbal instructions as required to perform his duties in a safe and efficient manner
  • Must be capable of reading & understanding electrical drawings
  • Must have direct experience installing and maintaining:
  • Troubleshoot and repair ventilation fans and mine pumps
  • Electric/hydraulic mining equipment
  • Phone and mine communication systems
  • PLC and other advanced or automation systems
  • High Voltage (600 V to 15,000 V) and Low Voltage Power and control systems
  • Underground sub-stations
  • Fabricate electrical panels and other necessary
  • Perform safely and timely emergency repairs to equipment
  • Must have skills to help train new employees and apprentices
  • Must be able to communicate written and verbal instructions to subordinates

Required Skills and Qualifications:

 

  • Electrical trades certificate of competence for Industrial or Construction and Maintenance (required)
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in an underground mining environment
  • Ontario Hard Rock Underground Service Type Common Core (or other provincial equivalent) (required)
  • Ability to maintain and troubleshoot WiFi Communication System
  • Ability to multi task and work safely and effectively
  • Ability to work efficiently as part of a team as well as independently

 

Health and Safety:

 

  • Follow Company and Client health and safety standards and report all unsafe acts or conditions to supervisor
  • Practice proper use and maintenance of personal protective equipment
  • Work in accordance with local legislation
