This position reports to the director, major projects safety, health, environment and quality (SHEQ) in Cameco’s major projects division.  The major projects division is located in the Saskatoon office, however, this position is located in Port Hope and is directly accountable for all facets of safety, health and environment (SHE) for Cameco’s Vision in Motion (VIM) project. The VIM project is a large, long-term investment that addresses legacy waste from historic operations at the site.  The VIM project includes removal of inherited waste materials, removal of surplus buildings, refurbishment of buildings to improve the efficiency of the site and improvements to site infrastructure.

You will be responsible for liaising with site and divisional stakeholders on all aspects of safety, health and environment during the execution of the VIM project. You will ensure project specific plans are developed, maintained and implemented in a manner that complies with Cameco’s major projects and site SHE requirements. Plans will include conventional health and safety, radiation protection, contamination control, industrial hygiene and environmental management.  You will supervise the project team’s construction safety specialist, radiation and environmental technicians and security personnel.  You will also be responsible for preparing reports and communicating project SHE performance to stakeholders, which includes project, site and major projects.

Education and Qualifications

Requirements of the position:

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences or a related natural science
  • Minimum of eight years of relevant work experience
  • Equivalent combination of education and work experience considered
  • Experience with environmental monitoring procedures
